Poker is a game of chance but it also involves a lot of psychology and strategy. It’s a game where even the most experienced players will sometimes make mistakes that look incredibly silly (and are often made by beginners).
When it is your turn to bet in a hand you can say “call” or “I call” to match the previous player’s bet and put your chips into the pot. If you’re unsure how much to bet you can ask another player or the dealer for help. Usually it’s the dealer’s responsibility to ensure that bets are placed correctly but you can ask for help anyway.
If you’re holding a good poker hand then you should raise your bet to get more chips into the pot. When you’re raising you should always be careful to only raise when you think you have a good chance of winning the hand. Otherwise you’re just throwing your money away.
After everyone in the hand has called your raise you will then have to decide whether to stay in or fold. If you’re holding a good hand then staying in is often the best option.
Once the betting in the first round is over then the dealer will deal three cards face-up on the table that anyone can use, this is called the flop. After that the dealer will again take bets from the remaining players in the hand. If you’re holding a good poker hands then you should raise your bet to encourage other players to stay in with you.
